Hey there y'all! Welcome to our cozy corner of the internet! I can't express how thrilled I am to have you here with us. In case we haven't had the pleasure of crossing paths before, I'm Claire, and I make up one half of our dynamic mother-daughter team. In the So & Sew realm, I wear many hats, serving as the friendly face you'll find behind the counter, the diligent inventory manager, the social media aficionado, and the creative mind behind our website.
I have a genuine passion for connecting with the wonderful people who support our business, and that's precisely why I wanted to offer all of you the opportunity to get better acquainted with us. HOW DID YOUR SO & SEW JOURNEY START?
This journey started very accidentally. When I was 17, my Mom bought an existing embroidery business, the former "So & Sew Monograms". It was off-season in a tourist town at the time, so I was having trouble finding a job. At the time I started working for her, thinking I'd find something new when the summer season started. Well, pretty quickly, the staff that had come with the store decided they wanted to work for their former boss and gave notice. For me, it was a moment of "ok, I either need to step up and help more, or let Mom flounder." So I stepped up; threw myself into learning all the things I needed to help this business be successful. Fast forward five years, and I am an equal owner who loves what I do and is so freaking proud of what my Mom & I have built.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE PART OF THE JOB?
There's a story behind every moment, and I love getting to help infuse that story into every gift that leaves our store. People come to us for gifts for everything from new life to the loss of one. There's something so rewarding and beautiful about getting to be a tiny part of your story.
HOW DO YOU LIKE WORKING WITH YOUR MOTHER?
If you had told us five years ago that we would work together and enjoy it, we both would have put you in the looney bin. But I love working with my Mom; we get to laugh, cry, learn, and celebrate together. It's an experience I wouldn't trade for anything.
IF YOU WEREN'T DOING THIS, WHAT WOULD YOU BE DOING?
I have an education in Web Development, a path I decided on after building this website. If I weren't running So & Sew, I think I would be doing something using that education. Or I'd own a bookstore. 🤷🏻♀️

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE THING TO DO AWAY FROM THE STORE?
Boat rides, for sure. It's my happy place, cruising around the cape on a flat, sunny day. I also spend a lot of time doing movie and game nights with my friends

The sea of stars in the Maldives. The sea and sky are so clear that the night sky literally reflects off of the water.
